What happens if I encounter a difficult situation outside of the office hours? Who would I contact for advice?
There is always someone you can speak to anytime of the day as we have an ‘out of hours’ service available, where you can get advice and guidance as to what to do in a difficult or worrying situation. You are never on your own!
I know I’d be great at the companionship side of care, and would love to chat to clients all day, but I’m not sure about the personal care side?
This is a very common view, and points to a commonly held opinion of what social care entails. While washing and bathing, and other aspects of personal care can sometimes come into helping clients in their home, it is often one small feature of a broader spectrum of help. Our carers very frequently split their time helping with tasks around the home, and offering companionship, which includes every aspect of simply being a friend. We encourage longer care visits to our clients giving you proper time to care. This also means you will not be moving quickly from client to client allowing you more time to focus on the client and get to really know them and be able to build a special relationship with them. We are always looking for carers who enjoy spending time in people’s company, enjoying making memories and encourage our clients to maintain their hobbies and interests.
What is the Care Certificate and will I have to do it?
The Care Certificate is something that all care workers have to complete before being allowed to work as a carer. We are able to provide all of your training for this and support you through the Care Certificate.
I have never done care work before - will I receive training?
If you have compassion and empathy then that’s greater than any previous care experience. If you have any previous experience, then great, but this is by no means how we select our carers. We look for people with empathy and a caring attitude. We can train you in all the rest. We provide full training in order to prepare you for your role, with shadowing, ongoing training to ensure that you will not only be able to provide the highest levelof care to our clients, but you will also be supported and valued throughout your career with us.
How long does it take to complete the Care Certificate?
You can complete the Care Certificate as quickly as you like. Many carers will complete it in a week or two and for others it takes a bit longer depending on how much time you have available.
Can I do any qualifications?
Yes we encourage all of our carers to undergo further qualifications in care and additional training courses to enhance their skills and knowledge.
